New report on education for sustainable development within teacher training programmes.
ANGEL partner organisation the Development Education Research Centre (DERC) has published new research focussing on education for sustainable development (ESD) within initial teacher education (PGCE) courses at the UCL Institute of Education (IOE).
The new report, part of a series looking at development education, global learning and global citizenship, reviews the level of interest and engagement in ESD within the programmes, and is based on a mixture of interviews and focus groups with teacher educators and their students. It also reflects on the impact of the new UCL Sustainability Strategy, and weighs the institutional response to sustainability issues against the growing interest in sustainability and climate issues amongst many young people, as well as making recommendations of strategies for improving the integration of ESD into course content.
The research was conducted by DERC Co-Director Douglas Bourn and by student and ANGEL member Nese Soysal.
