GEM Report Response

UNESCO GEM Report 2017: DERC produced background paper published.

The Development Education Research Centre (DERC) has published a paper, titled "A review of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education in Teacher Education", that was commissioned as a background paper to the second GEM report ("Accountability in education: meeting our commitments"), published on Tuesday. These key reports monitor progress towards the internationally agreed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Education.

Teacher education can make an important contribution to raising understanding of SDGs within education, and the background paper looks at how these considerations are approached in reality, as well as identifying shortcomings in the current situation, barriers to progress, and presenting important recommendations for the future.
