Global Education and Learning in the Asia Pacific Region.
Bringing together academics, policymakers, and practitioners with an interest in Global Education and Learning who are working in or on the Asia Pacific region.
Several presenters and sessions discussed issues related to global education and learning, including sustainability, human rights, international cooperation in the field of education, intercultural learning, teaching as a profession and teachers’ professional development, at an international conference with the theme Reimagining Teachers and Teacher Education for Our Futures, held in Helsinki 18-20 June 2024.
Futures clearly interested teacher educators and scholars from some 50 countries, and the atmosphere among the 250-300 participants seemed enthusiastic, from the keynotes to sessions and chats over breaks. The Conference was organized and hosted by the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki and its UNESCO Chairs. Since the important tasks highlighted throughout the event can only be tackled in collaboration, ANGEL and the network Global Education Research in Finland (GERIF) organized a pre-conference. During the Reimagining our futures together through global education event, early career researchers, senior researchers and master students joined various networking activities and discussion rounds before talking a small walking tour through Helsinki. The event ended with a visit to Global Centre where we joined different workshops organized by the Finnish NGOs Amnesty International Finnish section, Taksvärkki ry and Peace Union of Finland. We are very thankful for everyone who joined the event and hope that we can continue our fruitful discussions, both within academics and with our partners in the civil society, to take the next steps to making our vision of a more sustainable future come true.
