Global Education and Learning in the Asia Pacific Region.
Bringing together academics, policymakers, and practitioners with an interest in Global Education and Learning who are working in or on the Asia Pacific region.
A major international Global Education conference, organised by ANGEL project partners Global Education Network Europe, was held in Lisbon on November 23rd.
The Conference was attended by over 150 delegates from throughout Europe and beyond including representatives from Canada, USA, South Korea as well as international networks such as UNESCO and OECD. Keynote speakers included the Portuguese Minister of Education, Tiago Rodriques, head of the UNESCO global citizenship education team Lydia Ruprecht and Utak Chung, Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) based in South Korea.
DERC's Doug Bourn also gave the closing address at the Conference and mentioned the value of the Conference in reminding global educationalists about its value base of social justice and international solidarity.
A feature of the Conference was the launch of the new Portuguese Development Education strategy which has the endorsement and involvement of 10 government agencies including education, environment, foreign affairs and environment.
