Dr Manuela Mesa
Dr Mesa is a pedagogue specialised in education for peace and development and in peace studies with a Phd in Sociology and Anthropology from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is co-director of the University Institute of Human Rights, Democracy, Culture of Peace and Nonviolence (DEMOSPAZ) at the Autonomous University of Madrid and director of the Center for Education and Research for Peace (CEIPAZ). For more than two decades she has worked within the third sector, in development NGOs, and in centers of studies on peace and conflicts linked to the Spanish Peace and Development Movement. She has directed numerous national and international projects on education, research for peace and gender, and authored many publications on these topics.
Professor Carlos Alberto Torres
Professor Torres is Distinguished Professor of Education at UCLA, former Director of the UCLA-Latin American Center, and UNESCO Chair in Global Learning and Global Citizenship Education. He is a political sociologist of education who did his undergraduate work in sociology in Argentina (B.A. honors and teaching credential in Sociology, Universidad del Salvador), his graduate work in Mexico (M.A. in Political Science, FLACSO) and the United States (M.A. and Ph.D. in International Development Education, Stanford University), and post-doctoral studies in educational foundations in Canada (University of Alberta). He is also the Founding Director of the Paulo Freire Institute in São Paulo, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and UCLA. He has been a Visiting Professor in universities in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Dr Karena Menzie-Ballantyne
Dr Menzie-Ballantyne is a teacher-educator based at the Bundaberg campus of CQUniversity. She has over a decade of experience developing and teaching courses in citizenship education at school and tertiary levels. Karena’s doctorate focused on comparing the reports of adolescents engaged in active citizenship with the knowledge, skills, values, attitudes and actions identified as necessary for global competence. She is currently working on multiple research projects with school sectors and not-for-profits exploring educators’ interpretation and implementation of global citizenship/global competence in schools and classrooms.
Professor Olivia A. T. Frimpong Kwapong
Professor Kwapong is an Associate Professor of Adult Education at the University of Ghana, Dean of the School of Continuing and Distance Education and chairs the Board of Ghana News Agency. Olivia holds a PhD degree from the University of Ghana, has studied as a Special Doctoral Candidate at Harvard University and served as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Bloomsburg University. Her research has focused on empowerment of women through adult education, open and distance learning and the use of ICTs. She has published extensively in both local and international journals, and authored five books.
Dr Yoko Mochizuki
Dr Mochizuki is a Head of Policy at UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) in New Delhi. Previously, she has acted as a Programme Specialist at the Section of Education for Sustainable Development at UNESCO, Paris, and as an ESD specialist and a research fellow at the United Nations University. Her current work focuses on working with national and local authorities to mainstream Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and digital learning as new dimensions of the SDG4, and especially 4.7. Yoko was born and raised in Japan, and received an MA from the University of Chicago and a PhD from Columbia University.
Professor Jose Frantz
José Frantz is the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation at the University of the Western Cape. Prior to this position she was the Dean of the Faculty for Community and Health Science at UWC. Her strategic interests include the promotion and advancement of research for impact through knowledge exchange and capacity building in health professions education and faculty development. Her commitment to human capacity development is reflected in the numbers of Master’s (45) and PhD students (15) that she has supervised and her academic activities in terms of teaching, learning and research is evident in her more than 100 publications.
Dr Hyun Mook Lim
Dr Hyun Mook Lim is currently the Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), a UNESCO Centre based in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Prior to assuming this position, he worked as Assistant Secretary General for Education at the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, where he had started his professional career in 1992. He has taught at Sungkyunkwan University as a visiting professor. He received a Ph.D. in Political Thought from Sogang University, Republic of Korea and M.A. in International Studies from the University of Denver, Colorado, USA.
Professor Lynette Shultz
Professor Lynette Shultz is a Professor and the Director of the Centre for Global Citizenship Education and Research in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta. Her key research is focused on democracy, social justice, global citizenship education, and the internationalization of higher education. She is also Adjunct Professor at the Universidade Católica de Brasilia, Brazil.
Professor TENG Jun
Professor Teng is Vice Director of the Institute of International and Comparative Education, Beijing Normal University, Assistant Secretary General of Comparative Education Society for Asia, and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Teachers College at Columbia University. Her research topics cover international organization education policy, 21st century skills, global competence, global education governance, international education and development education. She led and participated in more than 20 national and provincial projects, and published more than 80 papers on related topics, as well as several books.
Professor Massimiliano Tarozzi
Professor Tarozzi is full professor at the University of Bologna, and founding director of the Research Centre on Global Citizenship Education. He is responsible for co-ordinating the new Academic Network on Global Education and Learning (ANGEL), and was co-director of the Development Education Research Centre at UCL Institute of Education. He has published 18 books on the topics of GCE, intercultural education, citizenship education, social justice education, and qualitative research methods.
