Launch of "Education for Sustainable Futures: Global Citizenship and the Earth Charter".
A brief online launch event will explore the book's key themes, and include short presentations from contributors.
At Sinergias ED we believe that to educate is to transform. To transform ways of thinking, acting and being in the world. That is why we bring together people, institutions and experiences around a common purpose: building fairer, more supportive and more sustainable societies through Global Education.
We are a living and collaborative Community, built step by step through dialogue, critical reflection and joint action. Our mission is to bring academia and civil society closer together, creating synergies that inspire change.
Today, we are already more than 60 members, including Higher Education Institutions and Civil Society Organisations, with our main territory of activity being Portugal, but open to people from anywhere around the world. We work at different levels: locally, engaging with specific territories and contexts; nationally, connecting institutions and projects; and internationally, by joining research and action networks that share the same transformative vision.
We value collaboration, ethics of care, an ecology of knowledges, critical thinking, horizontal power relations and a transformative intentionality. Our governance model is participatory and flexible, grounded in dialogue and shared responsibility. At Sinergias ED, we believe that transformation only happens together.
Our activities are organised around three main areas:
The Sinergias Journal – Educational Dialogues for Social Transformation (ISSN 2183-4687) is an open-access scientific publication born from the very identity of the Community. Peer-reviewed and published in Portuguese, Spanish and English, the journal is a plural space for debate and knowledge sharing around Global Education and Education for Social Transformation. More than an academic platform, it promotes a true ecology of knowledges, questioning academia’s monopoly over knowledge production and embracing practices, experiences and reflections from those working on the ground. All content is free, licensed under Creative Commons, and reflects the journal’s commitment to the democratisation of knowledge and to building educational dialogues capable of inspiring social change.
By subscribing to our Newsletter, you can receive updates about our gatherings, publications, resources and events.
Because to transform is a verb that only makes sense when conjugated in the plural!
The Sinergias ED Community is jointly promoted by the Centre for African Studies of the University of Porto and the Gonçalo da Silveira Foundation, and is co-funded by Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language.
