ZEP, or 'Zeitschrift für internationale Bildungsforschung und Entwicklungspädagogik', is a quarterly peer reviewed journal on international educational research, global learning and development education and is published at Otto-Friedrich Universität Bamberg, Germany. The English title is 'Journal for International Educational Research and Development Education'.
ZEP was established in 1978 by Alfred K. Treml in collaboration with the AK Dritte Welt Reutlingen (Third World Working Group Reutlingen). Since its foundation, ZEP has established itself as a leading academic journal in the field of global learning, education for sustainable development, and development education within German-speaking regions. It draws on a range of educational traditions, including equally traditions of development education, ecumenical learning, and liberating educational work. It also engages with ongoing debates on sustainability, decoloniality, and transformation in the field of education encompassing both formal education and civil society learning.
The ZEP publishes original articles from a variety of traditions. In addition to scientific texts, the journal also publishes experiential and practical articles that provide a foundation for scientific discussion.
ZEP is published with online open access and as print media. Since 2020, ZEP has been published four times a year. Each issue is distinguished by a particular thematic focus. The submission of articles on an initiative basis is a possibility. The selection of articles is conducted by the editorial board and the editors and/or as part of a double-blind peer review process. Contributions are published in German or English.
