Activism in Global Education: From Theory to Practice in Higher
Discussing the intersections of education, social justice, and activism. How can educators and researchers foster activist engagement in their work?
Coventry University's influential research cluster the Centre for Global Learning are hosting an event entitled 'Educating Global Researchers' that will bring together a large group of stakeholders in this research area, including the ANGEL / TEESNet Partnership Group - as well as a meeting of doctoral students and supervisors from the Global South and North.
The event will be held on the 27th June, 10.30 - 16:00 at Coventry University, Richard Crossman Building, RCG01.
Within the UK there is a growing network of academics and researchers involved in global education and learning. This event aims to build on its recent activities and discussions to ask questions such as: what do we teach, and what do we learn, when we teach and learn about research? What is the hidden curriculum in global education research? And, by converse, what “hidden treasures” are left unvalued because of what research curricula tend to centre?
This event, taking the opportunity of a meeting of doctoral students and supervisors from the Global South and North, will try to create a space and a place to explore and imagine potential answers. Supported by prompts and short talks (5-10 minutes) from experts in global education and doctoral education, the aim of the event is to stimulate critical conversations and imagine potential futures for global research education partnerships.
The morning will mostly be taken up with short talks on the theme of "Perspective on the Hidden Curriculum in global research education"
The afternoon will focus on the work of the ANGEL / TEESNet Partnership, including a workshop on themes on current and planned research on global citizenship, global learning and education for sustainable development, which will take the format of series of short inputs by researchers.
ANGEL and TEESNet Members should submit suggestions for 10 minute inputs to ANGEL Co-Chair Doug Bourn by the end of May.
