Global Education and Learning, alongside areas such as Global Citizenship Education and Education for Sustainable Development, are rapidly growing areas of educational research. As part of its core mission, the Academic Network of Global Education and Learning pays particular attention to supporting the research of doctoral students and post-doctoral work.

This has included both face to face events such as 2022's International Summer School on Researching Global Education and Learning, and online events, such as the conference hosted by the University of Oulu in 2020.

For 2023, the ANGEL network will be hosting an online session of research presentations on Wednesday April 19th, 12:30 UK time. This event will provide opportunities for researchers to share their own research, projects, and/or present provocative ideas regarding Global Education and Learning. Key actors within ANGEL will introduce and facilitate the event, and offer expert responses and analysis.

Event focus

Proposals for papers and/or provocations should directly address the definition of Global Education as outlined below. They can reflect themes emerging from ongoing research, the outcomes of recently completed research or initial ideas for debate and discussion.

Global Education and Learning is seen as encompassing the following:

What do we mean by ‘Early Career Researcher’?

• Doctoral students (Post-upgrade)
• Immediately post-doctorate (early stage ECR)
• Transition to independent researcher (usually up to 6 years from PhD award)

We include those on teaching contracts, who are also undertaking research, within this definition.

ANGEL Early Career Researcher Network

A group of interested members plan to use this event to launch a member consultation on a proposal for a network for ANGEL early career researchers, which might offer valuable opportunities for networking, publication, and presentation, as well as peer support. Come along to the event, or register as a member to hear more about this. The group currently consists of Riikka Suhonen (University of Helsinki), Andreas Rogler (University of Oulu) & Dobrawa Aleksiak (University of Warsaw). 

Application process

Proposals will be peer reviewed and should contain the following:

• 250 words outlining aims of the paper, project, or proposal being presented
• Short biography that includes evidence of your status as an early career researcher

There will be no fee to be involved with this webinar.

Relationship with ANGEL Conference 2023

This event is being held in addition to the planned face-to-face ANGEL Conference 2023, an international conference held in partnership with UNESCO planned for June 19th and 20th in Paris. In contrast to the event in Paris, this online session for early career researchers will accept proposals about developing projects or incomplete research, and is seen as providing a space where early career researchers can meet and discuss their research online in a relatively relaxed and informal environment, as well as receive feedback from more established academics.
