Global Education and Learning in the Asia Pacific Region.
Bringing together academics, policymakers, and practitioners with an interest in Global Education and Learning who are working in or on the Asia Pacific region.
A new UNESCO Chair in Global Citizenship Education in Higher Education has been established at the University of Bologna, and appointed to ANGEL coordinator Massimiliano Tarozzi, founding director of the International Research Centre on Global Citizenship Education created in 2017 at the University of Bologna. Until last year he was co-director of the Development Education Research Centre at the UCL Institute of Education, where he has now been appointed visiting professor.
This is great opportunity to further strengthen ANGEL's relationship to UNESCO. As already announced, the next ANGEL international conference will be hosted at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, in 2023. Moreover, UNESCO acknowledged that “this global network [ANGEL] will be a special partner of the Chair, providing further possibilities of networking and disseminating activities”.
The UNESCO Chair will aim to disseminate GCE issues at the higher education level, as it is an educational field that has been under-studied and experimented with at the teaching level. The Chair will create networks that could facilitate collaboration between different types of actors involved in promoting GCE, such as civil society organizations, schools, policy makers, and private enterprises. Furthermore, in parallel with ANGEL, it will contribute to strengthening a global network that connects the world's most important research centers to develop joint projects and foster North-South university collaboration. This is because UNESCO Chairs are essentially hubs for international academic relations, connecting scholars and research centres with each other but also with policy-makers, practitioners and funding bodies.
Many congratulations to Massimiliano and we look forward to further collaboration.
