Dates now confirmed for 2024/25 #ANGEL_WS Webinar Series
The Academic Network on Global Education & Learning aims to build an international community of researchers and scholars, policymakers, and practitioners, in the field of Global Education. With this in mind, and responding to event feedback from members, we are happy to confirm the return of our regular series of shorter, research-focused events for the 2024/25 academic year. The ANGEL Webinar Series is aimed mainly at Global Education professionals, as well as anyone with an interest in research in the fields of Development Education, Global Citizenship Education, Human Rights Education, Education for Sustainable Development, Education for Peace, and Intercultural Education. This event, along with the other activities of the ANGEL network, are co-funded by the European Union*.

As last time around, all events are hosted via Zoom, but please do register in advance. Some sessions may feature follow-on informal member-only sessions.

- 12 November, 13:00: Global Education in Ireland: Critical Histories and Future Directions. This webinar will explore some of the main themes, issues and insights outlined in a new book, ‘Global Education in Ireland: Critical Histories and Future Directions’, published by Bloomsbury press and freely available by Open Access from October 17.
- 22 January, 16:00: Young people as researchers of global issues. This interactive online session aims to provoke debate on approaches to directly involving young people in the design and process of researching global citizenship, offering attendees a chance to develop their knowledge of participatory research methodologies, and contribute to the development of a current research project that is running across 3 Spanish universities.
- 12 February, 13:00: Activism in Global Education: From Theory to Practice in Higher Education Context. This webinar will explore the role of activism in global education, drawing on recent case studies and research. The session will discuss the intersections of education, social justice, and activism, with insights into how educators and researchers can foster activist engagement in their work.
- 26 February, 09:00: Global Education and Learning in the Asia-Pacific region. This short online event aims to bring together academics, policymakers, and practitioners with an interest in Global Education and Learning and Global Citizenship Education who are working in or on the Asia Pacific region. The event, part of an ongoing series of ANGEL webinars with a regional focus, will explore existing partnerships and regional collaborations in this important area, and attempt to identify the potential for future projects.
- 12 March, 13:00: Teachers for Sustainable Future: Global Education and Teacher Training in Visegrad Countries. This webinar will present the research results of the international project "Teachers for a Sustainable Future," which examines the role of higher education institutions in integrating Global Education (GE), with a particular emphasis on teacher education. The session will include several studies that explore various dimensions of how GE is incorporated into teacher training. Researchers from Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia will share their findings on the opportunities and challenges of integrating GE into teacher education programs in the Visegrad countries. They will also discuss the motivational factors encouraging academics to include GE in teacher training, along with good practices identified at the universities studied.
- 29 April, 16:00: Beyond Business as Usual (But Greener) Politics: Global Citizenship Education and the Principles of Degrowth and Interdependence. Drawing on specific literature and examples from the Japanese context, this session will outline a range of alternative approaches to global citizenship informed by “de-growth” and post-materialist perspectives as well as non-Western and decolonial scholarship which offer children and young people a concrete vision of what an alternative to BAU-G looks like.

The Academic Network on Global Education & Learning (ANGEL) network is the most comprehensive network of Global Learning professionals, with stakeholders in more than 100 countries. ANGEL facilitates the sharing of research and news, organises networking and conferences, and aims to form a pool of experts which can become a resource for policymakers in search of strong research grounding for policy development.
